Life in Mango (6/30/11)
The days in Africa are really split up into two. Everyone gets up early, eats, and goes off to work. Then they break from noon till two. They eat lunch, shower, and take a siesta. This is the hottest part of the day. But traveling is so slow that by the time the boys get back, eat, and shower they usually don’t have time for siesta. Then they go back to work until what is supposed to be 5:00, but it end up being 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, or whenever the project is cleaned up. The boys have spent a lot of time with Eric working at the hospital site. There is an endless amount of work to do. But sometimes in the afternoon they stay with me. One day we met up with the Mayberry’s and did soccer camp. We spent all afternoon with what felt like millions of little kids playing soccer and Frisbee.
We are kind of unique because we are not a real work crew coming in. We are here in Mango to meet the missionaries, see the hospital (which is not yet halfway built), see what you can and can’t buy, work alongside the missionaries (who all have a different roles here) to get the full picture of all that is involved, and meet the Toglees people. In Tsiko we will be able to see how the Mango hospital will someday operate and run. Eric will get to work alongside John Tuesink who has been the head maintenance man there for almost 20 years. He will go over mechanical things that are unique for Togo. I will be learning from the missionary women what to expect and the policies in place to help cope with the overwhelming stream of people who will be coming in for help. So, we will be visiting and staying in both Northern Togo at Mango and Southern Togo at Tsiko.
Prayer Request:
~ Please pray for traveling safety as we drive. We will soon be leaving Mango and heading down to Tsiko. Not only are the roads here very bad, but so are the vehicles and truck drivers.
~Please pray that God would work out all the details involve in our stay in Tsiko.
~That Eric would understand and pick up quickly all the new things he will be learning with John in regard to the unique needs in maintenance in Togo.
